Sample ImageWelcome to mAss Kickers!  As the power of the Internet provides more information about one’s new diagnosis, the need for a website geared towards the newly diagnosed patient and his loved ones has emerged.  Patients are continually looking for information online. mAss Kickers is a very unique website. It is almost exactly everything I was looking for when I was first diagnosed with a brain tumor in Oct 2005.  Knowledge is power. The MISSION of mAss Kickers is to EMPOWER patients and their loved ones through KNOWLEDGE and to make them feel less helpless when faced with an intimidating diagnosis.

We highlight extraordinary cancer/ brain tumor patients and their loved ones to show people that ordinary individuals dealing with catastrophic diagnoses are still “human” and can do extraordinary things.   mAss Kickers also presents diagnosis specific information as the “mAss Kicking Arsenal” to help guide you or a loved one through a tumor/cancer journey.  We present:
•    online links to possible treatment options once you HAVE the “scary” diagnosis
•    links to resources for additional information
•    links to blogs of individuals that have walked or are still walking a similar path

mAss Kickers also incorporates a unique online store that offers informational books by leading experts and inspirational books by survivors of specific diagnoses to provide knowledge, courage, and strength through this difficult time.

We understand how intimidating this process is for everyone involved when you or a loved one gets an intimidating diagnosis.  We just want to provide helpful resources to make the process a little easier.  The information contained on this website is intended to be added to your “mAss Kicking Arsenal” and not intended to replace advice from your physician!  Please check out our mAss Kicking Arsenal… we’ll be expanding it!

The store will provide additional resources and a portion of the proceeds of your purchase will be donated to a group of specifically selected "mAss Kicking" charities.  Please view our Selected charities.  The store gives you the unique opportunity to empower yourself or a loved one, while supporting the fight against tumor masses/cancer.   Please visit the store because it sustains our operation.

An online forum was created to offer support for individuals starting or continuing their journey and is intended as an outlet for members to cheer each other on.  There is mAss Kicking Strength in UNITY.  Please sign up to offer your support to somebody who might need it or find support there.

Take a look around.  I am very excited about this website because I think it has very good potential to help a lot of people and unite all the "mAss Kickers" in the fight against tumors/cancer.  Thank you for your support.  ARE YOU A mASS KICKER?  LET’S START KICKING mASS!

Wednesday, 17 December 2008
Active ImageAUSTIN, TX, Dec 16, 2008 – Today the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) awarded nearly $2 million with 11 grants to leading research institutions in the U.S. and Australia. The 2008 research grantees represent City of Hope (Duarte, CA); University of California at Los Angeles (Los Angeles, CA); University of Connecticut (Storrs, CT); Georgetown University (Washington, DC); Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) and Indiana University (Indianapolis, IN); Montana State University (Bozeman, MT); Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston, MA); Columbia University (New York, NY); Ohio State University (Columbus, OH); and the University of Sydney (Sydney, Australia). The Foundation, which has invested $21 million in research grants in its 10-year history, aims to fund research that meets the needs of underserved populations and encourages and supports the efforts of both established professionals in the field and young investigators in the early stages of their research careers.

"The LAF is proud of the role it plays in advancing the field of survivorship research," said Andy Miller, LAF Vice President of Programs and Policy. "Through this work, the LAF has the opportunity to address the gaps between what is known and what is done to address the needs of people affected by cancer."

The 2008 research grantees are addressing key recommendations from the "National Action Plan on Cancer Survivorship" and the reports of the "Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology Progress Review Group." These grants focus on areas of need in cancer survivorship that will build on the body of knowledge and services focused on access to quality survivor care and services, adolescent and young adult health-related quality of life assessment and cost effectiveness of preventative survivorship interventions. Additionally, through co-sponsorship with the National Lung Cancer Partnership, new knowledge will be gained in the area of lung cancer survivorship. (Please see below for more information about the grantees.)
